“Spaghetti war picture” Inglourious Basterds was released just about five years ago and we wanted to mark the occasion by screening it as close to the original release date as possible and of course in 35 mm, the best way to watch this particular film.

You could say it’s a revenge fantasy in which real and fictitious characters interact seamlessly in an alternate reality, but it’s also a film where film matters, not just figuratively, but literally…where else do a projectionist, a cinema owner, a film critic, and an actress try to take down Hitler? In addition it proved to be something of an acting showcase: Basterds was the breakout film for Michael Fassbender and Christoph Waltz, and it was how most people first became aware of Til Schweiger and BFFs Daniel Brühl and August Diehl. Fun fact: Léa Seydoux is in it as well.

Once upon a time in Nazi-occupied France… Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Eventually, she catches the eye of German sharpshooter Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Brühl), war hero and favorite of Joseph Goebbels.
