SCARY CINEMA 18-hour Midtown movie marathon, Fri Oct. 30

We are proud to announce SCARY CINEMA, an 18-hour movie marathon of classic horror broadcast by Turner Classic Movies, on Friday, October 30, 2015. Beginning at 8:15 that morning, Cinema Detroit will live-stream TCM’s line-up of classic scary and ghoulish movies, starting with The Mummy (1959), and concluding very early Saturday morning with The Leopard Man (1943). See full list below.

We want everyone to stop by the new location at 4126 Third Street and enjoy scary classics as they were originally seen — on the big screen. Admission is free; donations to our Projection Fund are strongly encouraged. We launched the Projection Fund to cover the cost of the new state-of-the-art equipment we need to show the mainstream and major arthouse films our customers most want to see. Donations are accepted at any level, and most levels include membership and/or other great cinematic perks, like TCM mugs and Warner Archive swag. Complete details are here, offline donations of cash or check are also accepted by mail or in person.

The morning and early evening hours of the marathon are dedicated to famed horror studio Hammer Films, best known for its monster movies like its Dracula series starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing and its Frankenstein series starring Cushing (11:30 a.m.).

Beginning at 8:00 p.m. with Cat People, TCM then pays tribute to Val Lewton, the producer who worked chilling and influential magic with astonishingly low budgets at RKO in the 1940s. With no money, limited time, and pre-selected titles, Lewton managed to create distinctive films rife with psychological terror.

We hope you will be able to join us in person, but if not, we’ll be on Twitter throughout the day and night with #TCMParty, the live tweet Paula co-founded and co-hosts. Paula has always wanted to have a simultaneous off- and on-line version of the tweet-along, so be sure and follow @TCM_Party and hashtag #TCMParty for facts and fun throughout the marathon.
