Coffee and (Christmas Movies): Trading Places

Dan-Aykroyd-in-Trading-Pl-001

Trading Places may not be the first movie you think of during Christmas, though it happens at this time of the year. Two elderly gazilllionaires, Randolph and Mortimer Duke (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche), make a wager for “the usual amount”: Is heredity or environment more important in shaping personality and social standing? To answer this question, they arrange for their spoiled employee Winthorpe (Dan Aykroyd) to switch lives with Billy Ray (Eddie Murphy), a con man who is no stranger to the streets of Philadelphia. Without a job or a place to live, Winthrope’s only ally in his new situation is Ophelia (Jamie Lee Curtis), a prostitute hired by the Dukes to ruin his engagement. When Winthorpe and Billy Ray discover how they are being played, they seek their revenge, and chaos and hilarity ensue.

In the spirit of the season, we’re having a concession sale: small popcorn & all pop except Coca-Cola are going for “the usual amount” each until the end of the movie.

Spoiler alert…the usual amount is $1:

Check it out, Saturday at 5 p.m.!
