One of the many reasons we love Detroit is that there’s a flourishing film industry here, and one of our goals has always been to show as many Detroit-area made movies as we can.
Luckily right out of the gate, our very first screening was Mitten Movie Project - Detroit Night, and we’ve continued with Detroit-made films and filmmakers. I guess if you look at our logo, it was destiny. Over our four months in operation, we’ve featured (in chronological order): 48 Hour Film Project Horror screening, Girls Gone Vinyl, Detroit Threat Management, Detroit Unleaded, The End of Time, Detroit Video Discovery Found Footage screening, and John Brown: Madman or Martyr.
Also on Wednesday, March 19, we’ll be showing Band of Sisters, which features several Detroit-based Catholic nuns, one of whom, Nancy Sylvester, IHM, will be doing a Q & A afterwards, preserving our near-perfect record of Q & As with Detroit-related movies.
Many thanks to these filmmakers for helping us achieve our goal and making the metro area such a cool place to live. We are always working on booking more Detroit movies (one in particular that we can’t talk about just yet), and Detroit-based or -related suggestions are always welcome.
