SOUTHERN BAPTIST SISSIES starts Friday, March 21

Del Shores (Sordid Lives) returns to the screen with an adaptation of his hilarious and heartbreaking play, Southern Baptist Sissies, the story of four gay boys who grew up in the Southern Baptist church and the journey each takes in balancing their homosexuality with church teachings. Developing from confused boys into struggling adolescents, then angry, damaged adults, each follows his own path attempting to reconcile faith with sexuality. Mark becomes a writer, questioning everything. Benny embraces who he is and becomes a drag queen entertainer. T.J. attempts to live as the church tells him by trying to be straight. Andrew, the most troubled sissy of all, believes the message that there is something truly wrong with himself, and makes a startling decision that changes the lives of everyone around him.

SouthernBaptistSissies-poster-288w Southern Baptist Sissies features an impressive cast, including Emerson Collins (“Sordid Lives: The Series”), Willam Belli (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Matthew Scott Montgomery (“So Random!”), Luke Stratte-McClure, Leslie Jordan (Will and Grace), Dale Dickey (Winter’s Bone), Bobbie Eakes (“All My Children”), and from Sordid Lives, Rosemary Alexander, Newell Alexander, and Ann Walker. This film “is an engaging exploration of the point where religion and sexuality collide in the American South….irreverent but honest….digging deep beneath the surface to grapple with big issues all viewers can identify with” (contactmusic.com).
