Just over a year ago the joy known as How To Catch A Monster, Ryan Gosling’s first feature, filmed in Detroit, an event which transfixed an entire metropolitan area. Ah memories…
The film, now renamed Lost River, stars Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Saoirse Ronan, and Doctor Who Matt Smith in “a really bizarre, fantasy-type story, in the vein of ‘Goonies’ meets Twin Peaks,” according to Johnny Jewel of the Chromatics, who is writing the soundtrack.
Lost River has been selected for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category, known for innovative and daring work by emerging talents. “Un certain regard” literally translates to “a particular outlook,” and the 18 films are said to be appropriately edgy.
All are eligible for a variety of awards at the Festival, such as the Prix un Certain Regard, a €30,000 grant toward distribution costs. Last year’s Un Certain Regard winners included Stranger By The Lake and Fruitvale Station. Here’s a couple of images from the film via Indiewire.
